“It’s the first time I’ve ever taught astronomy as a semester-long class, and it’s been super exciting because I’ve been able to ask the kids what they [want to learn]. It’s really different, especially as a high school teacher, to be able to design a whole class. In astronomy, there are lots of different units, [so] I try to mix it up every semester. We learn about our solar system [and] about the history of people [that] have studied the stars and the universe. The district gives us certain topics that we have to cover, but the rest is pretty open, and that’s been really fun, but also kind of nerve-racking.” – Sarah Johnson, Science
