Writing Greek prose on the whiteboard, seniors Nell Jaskowiak and Deirdre Jost practice their letters and accents during their independent study. Taking Greek enables Jost to better prepare for a variety of possible futures, both through the content itself and the skills she retains. “Greek actually has a whole bunch of different accent marks which is not something you have in English,” Jost said. “I feel like Id like to take [another] language, maybe Spanish or French, in the future and having learned the Greek language with different alphabets and different accent marks might make it easier to learn that language, whatever it may be.”

Posing with a bok choy, Webster Groves freshman Bree Tokraks and sophomore Kathryn McAuliffe relish in their inside jokes from Kode with Klossy, a free two-week summer camp designed to empower teen girls interested in coding. McAuliffe discovered the program through Peerlift, an organization that strives to help prepare high school students for the future. “I’d like to do Kode with Klossy next year, and I will apply for sure, but there are a couple of other opportunities I’m more interested in. I don’t even know what those opportunities might be, but I’d like to do something more in my interests with journalism or activism,” McAuliffe said.

Posing with camp director Rob Darroch, senior Emily Rayfield stands in front of the climbing tower. Rayfield had been going to Sunnyhill Adventures since she was 7. Its a summer camp for kids and adults with disabilities, but my family and friends like to attend too. The camp provides activities that all disabilities are capable of doing. Its incredible to see people in wheelchairs make it to the top of a 50-foot climbing tower and to see people with MOT skill difficulty shoot a bow and arrow. Camp provides an escape for people with disabilities and allows them to achieve things that seem impossible to people without disabilities, Emily said.
