Pronouns: she/her

I am a senior, and this is my fourth year on staff. The Pathfinder has helped me push myself independently, build a supportive community and grow through my mistakes. Though I write a lot of opinions, I do seek to understand the other side— my newfound knowledge always either strengthens my own position or changes my mind.  I love fairy princess tea parties with my friends and 12-hour study marathons. In the rest of my time, I am Student Body co-Vice President, a part of the Scholar Bowl team and often found on or around Creve Coeur Lake with St. Louis Rowing Club. I most enjoy the small moments; a friend’s laugh, the brush of my fingers against a piece of paper and the first glimpse of daffodil yellow after a really long winter (gotta love Missouri weather).

As senior Rick Biswas reads a packet, junior and Scholar Bowl Executive Captain Owen Arneson keeps track of senior Kevin Zhengs and the rest of his teammates points. Doing this at each of the Scholar Bowl teams practices three times a week allowed Arneson to figure out categories he and his teammates have improved in. Senior and Strategic Captain Anna Csiki-Fejer (not pictured) then helps players find resources to improve in categories the team doesnt cover as well. Im excited to go to tournaments, see some new people and competition, Arneson said. We were at a really good spot dedication-wise at the end of last season, but how much more dedication Im already seeing this year looks like a really good sign to me. I love seeing my teammates play well, show good teamwork and have a good time; it makes me really excited to see just how well we can do this year.

This was surprisingly delicious. It is no longer the middle of winter, but sometimes you just need a warm hug anyways, and this bowl is it.

Constructing towers from donated food items, Longhorn Council Junior Class President Paige Matthys-Pearce prepares to transport the boxes back to the gym foyer to get them tallied for the Parkway Holiday Cup. The five Parkway high schools joined forces to collect donations for the Parkway Pantry and dress up for spirit days in a friendly competition. Ive seen a lot more spirit week participation than in the past because were competing against the other schools and people are excited about beating them. However, its also just for a good cause. Weve done a food drive earlier this year, and had little participation, but the spirit week raises awareness and weve seen so much involvement this time around, Matthys-Pearce said. The competitive nature of the Holiday cup has motivated more people to donate to the Parkway Pantry. Just in the span of four days weve received almost 1,000 donations. As we go into winter break, its important that everyone in our community feels supported and has what they need.

Self-isolation as a response to COVID-19 had more benefits beyond containing the spread; it also helped some people discover their introvertedness.

Experimenting with prototypes to create different types of motion, freshman Joseph Britt works on his automaton for engineering teacher Chris Donaldsons Intro to Engineering class. In the week leading up to spring break, Britt, along with junior Levi Ladd and sophomores Rick Biswas and David Meisinger, worked on their robotics project during class in anticipation of competing at the 2020 Vex Robotics World Championships, under the agreement that they would finish the class project over spring break. I offered to build [the automaton] because I had the parts to build it, and its important to keep busy. It can be fun to challenge yourself and do new things, Britt said. I am planning on learning some new skills, like text coding, that I might use next year in robotics. If you dont always have something interesting to do, the time can just kind of blend together and you can get bored.
