Only some stars stun on Oscars red carpet

As I sat down to watch red carpet coverage of the Oscars, the award show that honored achievements in film from 2013, I anticipated the fashion to stun as much as the nominated movies did.  But as each star stepped onto the carpet, I quickly noticed that actresses made mediocre fashion choices that let down viewers of the red carpet coverage.  I did have some favorites, though.  These four women of film helped remind audiences of why the Oscars are considered one of the biggest nights in fashion.

Jennifer Lawrence, my only fashion-favorite that was also a nominee, wore a red-orange Dior Couture gown.  As her run for being cast in hugely successful films continues, so does her choice of being simply and elegantly dressed in Dior.  The strapless gown fell perfectly onto her body shape and the peplum touch provided a good break in her long figure.  Lawrence also wore a backward diamond necklace which put a nice trendy touch onto such a classic look.

Angelina Jolie created the perfect timeless look in a Elie Saab Couture dress.  The long-sleeved dress was embellished with gold tinted jewels which made a good balance that prevented the actress from looking too over the top.  But Jolie’s look could not have been complete without Brad Pitt by her side.  He was dressed in a classic black tux by Tom Ford which made the pair look classic and flawless.

A charcoal grey and black Vera Wang  dress and dark lips created a stunning combination on Emma Watson, one of the Oscar presenters.  The dark color blocking, high neckline and overall sultry look really complimented the feminine way the dress hugged the lower half of her body.  Watson may not be a veteran of the Oscar red carpet but she definitely exemplified her amazing ability to dress for such an event.

After seeing Naomi Watts step onto the carpet, only one word occupied my mind: sleek.  Watts wore a white Calvin Klein Collection dress.  The dress was lightly beaded and embellished which made the simple ensemble a little more fun.  She also wore triangle/spiderweb-like necklace which matched the edgy design of her gold, black and white clutch.  Watts could not have looked more sleek with the combination of classic colors and unique accessories which is why, in my opinion, she was the best dressed at this years Oscars.

Subtlety seemed to be a red carpet trend for this Hollywood event, and although I was not completely impressed by all of the actresses, these four leading ladies could be your inspiration this prom season.
