Finals week is here. Feeling stressed or tired? On Nov. 3, a new Red Bull flavor was released into grocery stores, gas stations and markets. Walking into Walmart located on Manchester Rd., the search around the energy drink aisle begins, hoping to find the new Fuji Apple & Ginger Red Bull flavor. Three cans of the new winter edition flavor, sugar-free, sit in the plastic Walmart bag, waiting to be tried.
As energy drinks continue to take over the daily routines of high school students, the excitement around new flavors has only gotten stronger. Whether it’s for a late-night homework session or an early morning wake-up, grabbing a Red Bull has become second nature to many. So when Red Bull announced a brand new Winter Edition flavor, Fuji Apple & Ginger, it immediately grabbed the attention of students. With its bright can, unexpected flavor combo and the hype building online, this release has quickly become something students are eager to try and talk about.
Flavor
With everyone in high school running on little sleep and way too much homework, energy drinks have basically become a daily essential. So whenever a new flavor comes out, people rush to try it and decide if it’s actually good or just another flavor flop. Red Bull’s newest release has become a common topic of conversation in recent weeks. From the bright can to the unusual flavor combo, it’s definitely sparked a lot of curiosity.
This new sweet and bitter energy drink has sparked a lot of debates and reviews. The bright orange and yellow ombre caught my attention at first glance. I was intrigued by the interesting mix of apple and ginger. Flavor and taste are important to students when it comes to picking out an energy drink, so they can enjoy both a boost of energy and a pleasant taste. This new Red Bull flavor has a very bitter and apple juice-like taste. It reminded me of sparkling apple juice, just with added caffeine.
“When I tried this new Red Bull, it honestly [shocked] me how much I liked it,” freshman Tala Daboul said. “The apple taste was really strong, [but] I didn’t taste much ginger, then again I don’t really eat ginger, so [it would be hard to tell].”
The new flavor comes in sugar-free and regular sugar, which provides a variation for students to pick from. According to Sporked, the non-sugar-free option is said to be more popular and have a sweeter taste.
Price and information
With the prices going up around the world recently, people are concerned about whether Red Bull is worth it due to its pricing. The Winter Edition is no different, and a lot of people have been wondering if it actually costs more or if it’s basically the same as the regular flavors.
So, is the new Winter Edition Red Bull more expensive than the regular flavors? Honestly, not really. Red Bull usually costs between $2.49 and $4.60, depending on where you get it. Stores like Walmart are usually cheaper, while places like Target, Circle K, or any higher-end market tend to cost more on the pricier side. The winter edition retails for about three dollars, depending on what size you get; the price could change, but it would still compare the same to any other flavor.
The caffeine amount is pretty much the same as the regular Red Bull, too. A 12 fl oz can has about 114 mg of caffeine, and the smaller 8 fl oz can has around 80 mg. It also has the usual ingredients like B-vitamins and taurine.
Since the Winter Edition flavor is seasonal, some stores might sell out faster or raise the price a little once everyone starts buying it. You will typically be able to find the flavors in stores for about three to five months until they start to get fewer shipments, because that limited flavor will have ended. Usually, the winter edition flavors, like the Fuji Apple & Ginger, should stay in stock until the 2026 spring season, when the new spring edition would drop.
Tradition
Every time a new season rolls around, people begin to wonder what the next new flavor could be. Some of the winter drops end up being forgettable, but others completely go viral and take over social media. This year’s release is no exception, and it’s already sparked a lot of comparisons to past winter favorites.
Each year, Red Bull releases a new flavor honoring the winter season. 2022: Strawberry Apricot, 2023: Pear Cinnamon. On Oct. 18, 2024, the Winter Edition Red Bull, Iced Vanilla Berry, was dropped. The energy drink, consisting of a mix of blueberry and vanilla flavoring, quickly became a national hit, with about 82% of taste testers enjoying the flavor. This limited edition flavor became so popular that Red Bull decided to bring it back starting January 2026. This is pretty significant due to the fact that it is rare for Red Bull to re-release flavors after their limited time has ended. I’d have to say that the Iced Vanilla Berry was definitely one of my favorite limited edition flavors. The flavors really stuck out to me because it was such a unique combination that works well together, and it had a very wintery vibe. Compared to this year’s 2025 edition, last year’s Red Bull still has my heart.
“I thought the Iced Berry Vanilla Winter Edition Red Bull was pretty good. It’s a little different from the regular one because you could really taste the vanilla, but it still has that usual Red Bull taste,” sophomore Malak Sleem said. “Even though it’s a bit sweet, I didn’t mind it. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite, but I’d still buy it again if they brought it back next year.”
Not only does the winter season have its own Red Bulls, but so do summer and spring. Red Bull tries to include these traditions in three out of the four seasons. For example, during this past summer, Red Bull released a summer flavor ‘white peach,” and in spring, released a flavor known as ‘Grapefruit’. It’s the tradition each year that keeps buyers wanting more and anxiously waiting for the next new flavor.
Overall opinion
I believe in the saying, “to each their own,” meaning it’s up to your personal preference whether you like the flavor of the new Fuji Apple & Ginger Red Bull. Overall, I personally liked it with the sour kick of apple, and the carbonation with it, reminding me of a sparkling cider. It’s a good amount of energy for students and people, and it is a nice alternative flavor to all the other flavors Red Bull has dropped. Whether you’re in the mood for apple juice or in the mood for soda, I think this is the perfect combination for both, while still getting that energy boost.
