Love your enemy
During the 13th annual African American Read-In in the West High library, junior Donte Hopkins reads “Love Your Enemy” by Yusef Iman. Pizza and dessert was served to all student present. “We all have to live together. In the past there was so much hatred. The poem is telling everyone not to forgive them for everything they have done, but instead love them. It represented how we have to keep moving forward and love each other no matter what happens,” Hopkins said.

This poem is NOT about forgiving and loving white, evil and vile hatred that destroyed and damaged the lives of Black people of African descent. The poem clearly reveals the extreme atrocities perpetuated on them during slavery and even today! It is a loud recall and remembrance to Black people to “NEVER FORGET!” It’s a strong and powerful shout to LOVE SELF FIRST, with intensity and build inner strength, pride and love to combat being victims of systemic racism ever again!
