I am a senior, and this will be my fourth year on staff. At first, I wanted to do yearbook because it seemed like that’s what everyone was doing, so I wanted to be with them. Klevens, however, told me she thought I would be a great writer and I took her word for it. Now, I am really glad I did. I think my friends love that I am always in a positive mood, that I always try to light up a room and that I am always there to be an ear for them when things aren’t going their way. I love hanging out with my friends. I also spend all of my time playing sports. I play football, basketball and run track, so I am always working out. I like actually listening to the lyrics of songs to understand what is being said; sometimes it’s very relatable. I hope I have a very fun and eventful senior year.

Posing in a picture with her family, senior Megan VanValkenburghsigns her National Letter of Intent to be a part of the swim and dive team at Butler University next fall. VanValkenburg committed and signed in December, but signing day at school occurred on February eighth. “All of the support from everyone on signing day made [committing] feel very real now. I feel like every little step I have taken in this process has led to that moment,” Vanvalkenburg said. “I have always loved the campus and location of the school, but [the girls on the women's swim and dive team at Butler] made me feel a part of their team on my visit, that’s when I knew I wanted to spend my next four years there.”

Unwrapping the finished product, senior Triniti Cook admires the pumpkin pie she baked for Thanksgiving dinner. Cook went to her aunt's house for Thanksgiving dinner. “My favorite part about making [the pie] was listening to Christmas music and singing as I made it. We do it every year and it gets me in the Christmas spirit,” Cook said. “I love this time of year, it makes me so happy and I get excited for the family gatherings and gifts.”

Sewing two layers of a mask together, freshman Hannah Choi creates masks to donate to BJC hospital, the police department and nursing homes. Choi’s neighbor gave her the idea to donate masks to first responders. “This is the first time I’ve ever sewn, so it’s new to me, but sewing is helping me pass time. Once you start, it’s kind of addicting, and it takes away my boredom,” Choi said.

Junior forward Ali-Raza Rizvi dribbles the ball across the field as he searches for a teammate to get an open shot. The boys JV soccer team came out on top with a win 3-1 at Parkway South to give momentum heading into the rest of the season. “Although in soccer I try to keep my mindset the same against every team I play, against rivals the intensity rises before the game even starts,” Rizvi said. “In order to prepare for these types of games, I let the intensity fuel me to play even better than normal games.”

Battling for possession, sophomore wingman Matthew Parnas steals the ball from his Hazelwood West opponent. The varsity boys soccer team beat Hazelwood West 5-3 to get their seventh win of the season. “I think the mentality was pretty positive coming off of a couple wins with a season that hasn’t really been what we have hoped for win-wise," Parnas said. "But we found a way to keep our heads together to steal a couple wins."
