In the library with her Honors English II class, sophomore Alexandra Toombs constructs a board game, Othello Clue. A Shakespearean twist on the original game, the objective is to try to guess who, where and with what item someone is trying to woo your (Othello's) wife, Desdemona. "I thought the assignment was very fun, because I got to create stuff and look at the play in a different way," Toombs said. "One hardship I encountered was I could not find game pieces, so I made my own out of Legos."

In a game against Eureka Jan. 5, junior Tre Bell pushes the ball up the court to start a fast break while the defense is caught off guard. Bell has been playing basketball for the past 12 years. “To be honest I don’t usually think during games. I let my instincts [take] control because I trust my abilities and i’ve been playing for so long,” Bell said. “Before the game we were very eager to win because last year they [Eureka] beat us in the district semifinals so we owed them payback for that.”

Sister of senior Madi Foppe, Kennedy Foppe, tapes paper hearts to her window to form a rainbow of hearts. She came up with the idea after seeing people share rainbows and wanted to incorporate hearts to represent love and kindness for healthcare and essential workers. “We enjoy [art] but we don’t get to do it a lot. During quarantine we have definitely gotten to do more,” M. Foppe said. “We had an idea to create a rainbow of hope out of hearts to spread hope and love during these uncertain times.”

Reviewing notes, junior Kathryn McAuliffe prepares for the Greater St. Louis Speech Association Workshop Aug. 24. She finished ninth in Internal Extemporaneous Speaking at the 2019 NSDA Eastern Missouri District Tournament. “I've always prepared [for tournaments] knowing this bias is something I've had to deal with. Public speaking-wise, I always make sure I'm not loud when I speak, that I'm always controlled in what I'm saying so that I look very poised,” McAuliffe said. “That pays off so your judge isn't judging you for being too passionate, and they can't say that you're outrageous in what you're saying.”
