Captain America: Civil War review

Over the past eight years, the Marvel studios, a Disney-own corporation, has provided entertaining comic book movies such as the Iron Man, The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the most recent addition to the Marvel cinematic universe could possibly be its best yet. Captain America: Civil War enters theaters as the 13th film in the connected Marvel universe, and it is the third film in the Captain America trilogy. Based off a Marvel comic by the same name, the movie focuses on heroes fighting heroes, instead of facing against the stereotypical villain.

Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, the film follows the consequences of the destruction and death in the previous films of the Marvel universe. The Avengers find themselves facing political pressure to abide to a government regulated system of accountability. Captain America, played by Chris Evans, believes that superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without regulations while Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr. sternly disagrees and supports the potential oversight. This disagreements leads to high tensions between the characters, as each stand firmly on their own side forcing other members of the team, such as Black Widow and Scarlet Witch to pick sides.

Overall, the film does an amazing job of incorporating all of the memorable Marvel characters and heroes into the plot of movie. Thanks to the directing brilliance of the Russo brothers, each character is given a moment to shine while the main focus of the story remains on Captain America. Normally, stand alone Marvel movies focus on the title character and throw in one or two additional Avengers into the film, however, the Russo’s had a tough task of incorporating all of the Avengers into one movie. Throughout the film, the audience is easily able to understand both sides of the conflict and sympathize with the star characters, as Evans and Downey excellently portray the emotional dilemmas of the two leads.

The film also introduces two new characters to the Marvel universe: Spider Man, played by Tom Holland, and Black Panther played by Chadwick Boseman. Both of these characters steal the movie, as the audience is not bored with the backstories of either character, but instead just introduced to them in set up to their own solo films, which will hit theaters next year.

The best scene in the entire movie is the airport scene: an 18-minute long fight scene between the two sides, where the Captain America is punching Iron Man, Black Panther attacking The Winter Soldier, and Spiderman webbing up Ant Man. For anyone who is a fan of Marvel comics or movies, this scene is incredibly enjoyable as these legendary characters are actually fighting each other for the only time outside of the comic books.

Overall Captain America: Civil War offers great performances, plot and action scenes that will make any comic fan smile with joy. The Russo brothers have once again made an amazing Captain America movie, and now fans have to wait until the directing brothers begin work on the next Avengers movie, which is set to come out on May 4, 2018. As well as, the new solo movie for starring Tom Holland titled Spiderman: Homecoming, which is set to hit theaters on July 7,  2017, and the first ever Black Panther solo film starring Chadwick Boseman, which has a release date for July 6, 2018.

The Parkway West Pathfinder gives Captain America: Civil War a 9/10.
