As the world of online media continues to grow, the Reflections art and literary magazine will go online for the first time by the week of Feb. 24 in the hopes of reaching a bigger audience.

“We try to highlight two different types of talents: art and writing. We’ve had some incredible artists and writers, and their work deserves to be recognized. The content will stay similar to the printed versions we’ve had in the past years. But the online version will take less paper, less money and hopefully reach more people since it’ll be free,” sponsor Carolyn Dixon said.

The Reflections staff attends weekly meetings, bringing in written pieces for others to illustrate.

“Reflections has allowed me to share my work instead of keeping everything in notebooks that nobody ever sees. I overcome obstacles by writing and singing, and it’s given me a place to share that,” freshman Chryssi Magee said.

At meetings, students work and receive feedback in an open environment.

“We’re a group of creative people, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s nice to be able to express myself without anyone judging me. I like being in an area where everyone loves everyone,” junior Stephanie Dam said.

Although the team already had several pieces prepared for the website launch, they faced difficulties when Dixon broke her foot.

“I’m the sponsor, and I was gone for four months! We’re a bit behind because of that, but hopefully we’ll have just as much work to share as last year,” Dixon said.

Despite this challenge, the members hold high hopes for their online magazine.

“It’s not easy getting everything onto the website. In the past few years, we’ve always known exactly how to put it into a book format, but this is so new. But I think it’ll be a good thing because this year is much more relaxed. There aren’t as many deadlines that we have to meet, and our group still has the same talent it’s always had,” senior Brittany Thompson said.

The Reflections members meet every Thursday in the third floor computer lab, and they encourage all students to bring in their writing and artwork for publication.
