Eyeing up breakfast options, seniors Nolan Barbre and Jake Juenger take in the sights and smells of Dominique Ansel Bakery during their first morning in New York City. Marketing students go on an annual trip to tour New York’s major businesses and learn about marketing strategies. “I got a piece of chocolate cake for breakfast, which was a pretty great start to the day,” Barbre said. “Everything in New York is so much fun and totally different than an everyday routine back at home.”

Sophomore Will Bonnett finishes a lap of breastroke during a home meet versus Parkway Central. Bonnett focused on gaining strength outside of the pool to aide his transition back into the water after healing. “I feel like I was able to build more muscular strength while out of the pool, and I was able to put in a lot of endurance work in the water to help get me back to my past endurance level,” said Bonnett. “Both of these things combined together to help me perform better than I ever have.”

Moving her hand to to copy the leader, freshman Harlei Young participates in the ‘say it and do it’ activity in the third common ground of the year. The main focus of this activity was to examine the concept of honor and if students would remove themselves from the game if they did not follow the leader. “Common Ground is great because it gives us a place to ask questions and a group of people to talk to,” Young said. “We play games as a group and it lets us get to know other students.”

A student accidentally falls asleep on her book in class. She got two hours of sleep the previous night. “I always fall asleep in my classes and miss out on information, so then I have to stay up the next night trying to figure out how to do the homework,” she said. “This cycle makes everything so hard, but I refuse to sleep at night because hashtag sleep is for the weak.”
