Unwrapping the finished product, senior Triniti Cook admires the pumpkin pie she baked for Thanksgiving dinner. Cook went to her aunts house for Thanksgiving dinner. “My favorite part about making [the pie] was listening to Christmas music and singing as I made it. We do it every year and it gets me in the Christmas spirit,” Cook said. “I love this time of year, it makes me so happy and I get excited for the family gatherings and gifts.”

When someone goes through a name, gender or sexual identity change, it can be hard to make that transition due to our current social norms. People outside of the community can help people transition their identities by understanding pronouns, dead names, and understanding gender and sexual identities. “I think it is very important as a school and as individuals and as a society, that we look at an individual as an individual and that we are treating everyone in a realm that we would want to be treated regardless of the similarities and differences,” Principal Jeremy Mitchell said.

At the district level, there are currently open positions for two nurses, four teachers, eight bus drivers, 10 teaching assistants and 22 custodians. Principal Jeremy Mitchell would like to encourage individuals to explore job opportunities in Parkway. “I think in my heart of hearts that we’re a pretty good place that people would want to work for. It’s just figuring out what that looks like post-COVID,” Mitchell said. “Before you say no, or don’t consider it, try to talk to folks that have been here, whether it be students and staff, and try to get their opinion. By having conversations, your opinions of working in the educational system may change.”
