Packing cookies in a bag, sophomore Lucy Connors volunteers to bag snacks for teachers at the United Hebrew Congregation. Volunteering is not new to Connors, as she also volunteered at a homeless shelter and served lunch. “I enjoy helping the community and making a difference whenever I can,” Connors said. “I wanted to volunteer because I wanted to use my time doing something that betters someone else.”

For her POI piece, Khan spliced together different authors, poems and news articles into one cohesive story depicting Islamophobia in America. “This was my first time performing in front of a diverse crowd of Muslims and non-Muslims with my peers [and] teachers watching. I was surprised [with] the positive reaction I got afterwards; so many people [said] it resonated well.
