Standing with girls cross country team mascot Pump the pumpkin, senior Sydney Etchason laughs with her teammates. Before the team’s senior night, Etchason undertook an odyssey to recover the pumpkin, which had been stolen by boys cross country. “We went through practice, and then a little birdie told me that it was in [senior] Emmett [Vernon's] car. I [offered Vernon] $50 to give us our pumpkin back, and we got Pump back,” Etchason said.

After their daily practice on Oct. 23, the girls cross country team descended to the track to inaugurate a new tradition. Parents, coaches and teammates gathered to celebrate senior members of the team....

“[Senior night] was electrifying, to say the least. I had a lot of fun playing [lacrosse] and the senior night ceremonies were amazing. All of my friends, family and teammates were supporting me, which was great. My favorite thing about lacrosse is all of my teammates. We all get along really well. My favorite moment was beating Kirkwood this year and celebrating by doing the “I Wanna Rock Dance.” Being friends with Ali Rehman is what got me into lacrosse and I am very grateful for that.” - Nadir Gheith

Junior Cameron Chandler dances to “Congratulations” by Post Malone and Quavo for poms senior night Feb. 17. In order to calm their nerves, the poms team had a group huddle and boosted each other’s confidence before the performance. “This is by far one of my favorite years on the team yet, we are closer than we have ever been. We just build each other up and support each other everyday. Leaving this season will not be easy,” Chandler said. “Performing for senior night was really special. We all love Claire [LeDuc] so much and just wanted to do so well for her. I think we worked the most on this dance than any other one because of how special this was for her. We each share a different bond with her that is just really special. We still have two more performances and a competition and it's already extremely hard to think about her not dancing with us next year after becoming so close these past three years.”

Rallying for the point, junior Lindsey Anstrom plays during girls tennis senior night Oct. 1. Both JV and varsity defeated Eureka while honoring their seniors. “The season went by really quickly. This was the best season for me because I had my best friend, Gabrielle Oliver, as my partner, and we would just have fun on the court,” Anstrom said. “We would worry about the score, but we wouldn’t stress if we were losing. We did this handshake after each play, no matter if we won or lost the point; it was just a sign of sportsmanship and that we trusted each other.”

Walking across the Main Gym on Wednesday, senior Sophia Ferretti is accompanied by her parents, Pete and Tonya Ferretti during the senior Poms ceremony. As the dancers walked, history teacher Zaven Nalbandian announced the dancers achievements throughout their high school career. “It was a very bittersweet night,” Ferretti said. “I was really happy to have made it this far and I am proud of everything that I have accomplished. I definitely had to fight back my tears when the reality of not being on the team anymore started sinking in.”

With his father watching, junior Matthew Hopper attaches a plaque to his bench commemorating the life of Brynn Haun at the senior night ceremony for the girls’ tennis team Sept. 20. Hopper chose to create the bench for his Eagle Scout Service Project. “I’ve learned a bunch of stuff from Boy Scouts,” Hopper said. “From living out in the wilderness by yourself to being a better leader, helping younger people, helping older people, just being a better person, you learn life skills.”
