“[My mom] has been one of the biggest figures in my life. She grew up in a household where she was not expected to get an education outside of high school, and she went on and got a college education. [Being] an immigrant [is a] challenge [and] it has been a struggle to fit in and try to find passions when people are judging how you act, [but my mom’s] pursuit of a better life for herself is definitely what inspires me the most. Thanks to her, I am here today and able to make my own choices. The other thing that inspires me the most is failure. I want to [reach] my biggest potential and I don’t want to fail, because I know there’s so much out there that can excite me, and I want to be able to do all of it.” -Melissa Ricciardini, 10
