Conferencing with his coach after a meet, sophomore Jack Windler reflects on his performance from the previous event. Due to the many doubts about if there would even be a season, Windler felt grateful that he was able to swim for his school. “Receiving the news from MSHSAA that there would be a season was relieving,” Windler said. “This year really gave me a chance to reconnect with the team [as] a whole.”

Wearing dresses at Town and Country Square, sophomores Sami Eveland and Sammi Duncan dress up for their self-created homecoming. Despite COVID-19 cancelling school-sponsored homecoming , Duncan and her friend group decided to plan their own event and make the most out of the situation. “We were all super bummed about homecoming being cancelled,” Duncan said. “We just wanted to have a fun time with our friends whether it was for real or [fake], but we all knew that it was for our safety and getting to plan our own made us feel a lot better.”

Blocking the Lutheran North defensive line, sophomore Parker Cummins (61) and seniors Jake Braymiller (71) and Josh Gansen (1) clear a running lane for junior Ja’Marion Wayne (2). The Oct. 3 contest took place a day after the originally scheduled game against St. Francis Borgia was cancelled due to quarantine restrictions. “If I could tell my younger self something about playing football before COVID-19, it would be to play every game like it’s your last. I know that is a cliché, but now that is such a reality,” Gansen said. “With all the crazy schedule changes we truly have no idea when our last game is going to be, and—just like that—my high school football career could end, and that would suck. So go out and give it 100% every night because that very well could be your last opportunity to.”

Screwing bolts into the sukkah, senior and National Honor Society member Tengis Kelley volunteers at United Henrew Congregation to help prepare for Sukkot, a Jewish holiday. Sukkot celebrates the way God protected the Jewish people during their years spent journeying through the desert to the Promised Land. "The Sukkah will be used as the synagogue's sukkah for practitioners to come and commune and feast during Sukkot, hence why this one is relatively large," Kelley said. "I really enjoyed the experience and the chance to learn something new whilst volunteering."

Walking across the field, junior Callie DiCarlo attends softball practice on Sept. 16. The players wore masks during non-strenuous activities and distanced in the dugout. "It’s been hard especially because I feel for the seniors that their season isn’t normal, so I’ve been getting closer with girls on the team and it’s been lots of fun," DiCarlo said. "Our practices are definitely different right now due to health precautions."

Blowing into his trumpet, senior and trumpet section leader Karl Oswald practices his instrument outdoors at band rehearsal. Band has resumed rehearsals with restrictions put in place to adhere to social distancing guidelines. “One big limitation is that all of our rehearsals have to be monitored very carefully. That means I can't just pick a random day of the week for the trumpet section and myself to come together and rehearse; everything needs to be very planned out,” Oswald said. “This year, I'm looking forward to having an opportunity to play music in person with people I care about and [perform] my solo.”
