Sophomore sports enthusiast and avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan Will Gonsior has collected around 1000 sports cards that he keeps in sleeves for safety. His hobby began when his grandparents gifted him some baseball cards in elementary school.
“Most of them are not good cards, but I do have a lot of St. Louis Cardinals cards that have been signed. As much as I like the players and cheering for [them], it can be fun to have a little memento,” Gonsior said.
Gonsior’s favorite is a baseball card of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright. Gonsior would not sell his Wainwright card even if he was offered a million dollars. In second place is his Patrick Mahomes rookie card. Gonsior’s father also has a sports card collection and gave him some.
“[My dad] had a couple of very good cards. I know he had a Rookie Henderson card, [which was] very exciting. He had a Ken Griffey Jr, too. [I] thought that was very interesting,” Gonsior said.
Gonsior hopes to share his card collection with his kids in the future as well.
“It’s cool [that] my dad’s cards give me a chance to know more about his childhood and who he thought was cool back in the day.”
