Thirst Project

Executive Board member and senior Salma Ahmed raises awareness for the global water crisis

Members of the Thirst Project club raise money to help build freshwater wells in developing communities in hopes of aiding the fight against the global water crisis. Every other Friday at 2:30 p.m., members meet to plan and discuss fundraising ideas for the Thirst Project. Potential members can join by emailing senior and board members of the club, Salma Ahmed or seniors Rishita Nannapaneni, Sarenna Wood, Alina Henry and Claire Reifschneider and getting added to the Thirst Project Google Classroom.

What is the purpose of your club?

“Our club is part of a bigger nonprofit that’s based in Los Angeles. Their mission is to stop the global water crisis. What each club does is raise money in order to build a freshwater well, which is our way of helping stop the crisis.”

What is your favorite part of your club?

“The mission of the club, it’s just such an impactful thing on the world, and it makes you feel like even though we’re kind of insignificant, we’re still making a difference somehow, because every bit of money that we raise goes to this project and goes towards building the wells. It’s just a really good experience overall.”

Why would you love to have new members join your club?

“Our entire executive board is seniors. When we leave, we need people who are going to take over the club and continue to raise money and spread awareness. Also, the global water crisis is something that a lot of people don’t really know about. Having more people in the club would spread more awareness and get more people fighting to stop it.”
