Sophomore Hope Green adjusted to the new normal working at Sports Fusion.

“Since COVID-19 came along, a place that has kids touching a bunch of things and interacting just isn’t ideal,” Green said. “We haven’t gotten more than 10 people at one time but people still come in.”

As a public business that is now open, Sports Fusion is required to follow state health guidelines.

“[We are] trying to keep everything as sanitary as possible. Any activity that requires contact between an employee and a customer, the employee will be wearing gloves. That goes for the rock wall, concessions and the front desk. Masks are required for staff, but not customers,” Green said.

While learning at her job every day, Green experiences the redundancy of working during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I feel like I’ve been doing absolutely nothing. If we are not busy helping a customer, we are finding new things to clean or clean something again. Anytime something is used, we clean it before another customer uses it again unless you’re with family,” Green said. “Boredom comes when you clean the same thing five times that day, and because I’m working in such a fun atmosphere and nobody is really there to make it more fun right now.”

As going to work provided some normalcy to her life, Green’s hopes remain high for having a regular school year in the upcoming 2020-2021 year.

“This summer I safely spent time with friends and bettered myself for the next school year. I just want to go into my sophomore year feeling better, and this was the perfect time to do it,” Green said.
