On Sept. 20 girl’s volleyball will host Webster Groves in a showcase of head coach Susan Dean’s career. All varsity coaches at the game will have played for the Longhorns under Coach Dean during their high school careers. Dean is an alumni to the Longhorn volleyball program.
In the early 2000s, Dean coached varsity assistant Susan Anderson, as well as Webster’s varsity assistant Allie Mach. Now serving as the head varsity coach at Webster, Dean’s daughter Molly Dean is the youngest varsity volleyball coach in the state of Missouri, at age 23. She was coached by her mother before graduating from West less than 10 years ago.’
Athletes and other coaches respect S. Dean’s history of coaching volleyball, and her team spirit.
“She always talks with a purpose. It has come with the years of experience she’s had,” varsity player and junior Maddie Schoessel said. “Everything she says is so valuable.”
Freshman and JV matches will begin at 4:30 p.m., and varsity will play at 5:30 p.m. in the main gym.
