Burger battle ensues at Circle 7

Circle 7, owned and operated by two West families, the Ferretti’s and the Coy’s,  collaborated with the school in a burger battle competition, an inter-grade contest in which each class designs and sells a gourmet burger at Circle 7.

The contest formally begins on Sept. 7, and anyone can support their grade in the burger battle. One dollar from every burger purchased will benefit each particular class to use as they wish – once the competition ends.

“Before the school year started Circle 7 reached out to us to initiate a competition. They thought it would be well received in the school and community,” history teacher Annie Wayland said.

After three weeks of organization and planning, all four grade levels designed individual burgers. From the Freshmen’s ‘Nacho Average Burger,’ to Seniors’ ‘Mac Attack,’ the only requirements with the burger designs were to ensure they were a reasonable price and unique to Circle 7’s menu.

“Each grade designed a burger to be sold, the burger with the most sales by Dec. 31 will have theirs put on the spring menu,” student body president and senior Abby Kottmeyer said.

Each grade will be responsible for advertising their entry to arose support in the school and local community.

“Posters around school and or social media. And there will be a menu at Circle 7 with a list of the burgers,” junior Max Coy said.

Fried eggs and guacamole, andouille strips and pepper jack cheese, even deep-fried mac and cheese between two grilled cheese sandwiches, each grade aimed to be creative with their entries.

“We got a list from the restaurant of everything they sold including breads and condiments and the kids used those to come up with their ideas,” Wayland said.

Once the contest begins, Circle 7 will keep a thermometer to track how much money is being made for each grade. When the contest ends, they will figure out the winner based on the highest number of sales.

“With this contest, we hope to get money back for our school,” Kottmeyer said.

Homecoming week marks the beginning of the contest and will be a factor, along with floor designs and class floats, to determine the winning grade.

“I would really like the sophomore burger to win, but ultimately the goal is raise money for the foster care program,” sophomore burger designer Bella Rogers said. “As long as that happens, I don’t care who wins the contest.”
