The District Tournament was held on Oct. 1 at The Links of Dardenne golf course. Parkway West won for the tournament for the first time since 1980.
“We took first at district and the entire varisty team qualified for the Sectional Tournament,” Varsity Coach Nancy Sachtleben said. “This was our goal since day one. I am very proud of them.”
Junior Emily Goldenstein led the team with a low score and a second place individual medal with a score of one under par, 71.
“She has beautiful ball striking ability,” Sachtleben said. “It is just fun to watch.”
Earlier this year, Goldenstein golfed a four under par at the Suburban South Conference in which the team tied first place but took second overall. Goldenstein was named “Player of the Year” for this conference.
“Two years ago I could hardly break 100 from 6,000 yards. This summer I was in the 70’s all the time,” Goldenstein said.
On Monday, Oct 8 at the sectional Golf Tournament, Emily Goldenstein shot 71, a one under par to take first place for individuals. The team finished in fourth overall.
Goldenstein will compete at state on Oct. 15-16.
