Fresh off their first performance at Red and Blue Night, freshman Kelsea Wilson hugs her sister, senior Kristin Wilson, excited that they completed their first routine together. Both tried out for poms and were excited to make varsity, it being the only year they will both be on the team. “My favorite part is the games, getting ready with her beforehand and having our parents get to watch us both perform,” Kristin said.

At a field hockey team dinner, sophomores Sarah Kline and Annie Zahoran blow up another balloon for a competition to see who could not let the balloon drop to the floor on Sept. 2. Members of the field hockey program met at Coach Dawn Callahan’s house for a team dinner of Italian food.  “We were playing keep it up with the balloons as a competition between our three teams, but we ended up popping all of them. I was really struggling [to blow the balloons up] but we ended up having a lot of fun anyways," Kline said.

Molding the clay, junior Ledaniel Jackson works on building the base of his ceramic cactus. After the class completed their donuts project, they began creating cactuses for the coil building unit. “I think the best part about the class is having the freedom to create [ceramics] on our own,” Jackson said. “It makes the class really fun.”

Using only string to stack cups, Spark! students and seniors Christian Hopkins, Ryan Mendonsa, Matthew Weitekamp, Rachel Fleming and Parkway Central senior Sophia Chelist complete a group bonding activity. The program allows students from all four Parkway high schools to explore various career paths of interest in lieu of taking three on-campus courses. “It's nice to leave the traditional day and go [to Spark!]. It's not a typical classroom setting, it helps you to learn about the real world,” Fleming said. “[Spark! has helped me] see if teaching is what I want to do when I'm older, if I actually enjoy it or not before I go spend money on it in college.”
