“I play volleyball on the freshmen team. I’m a defensive specialist. I don’t have a particular reason why I like volleyball so much, it’s just really fun to play. It’s always a good time with friends and teammates. When I was in fourth grade, I liked to play volleyball in my free time. The spark gradually increased. My favorite memory was when we got cookies. Our coach would bring them to the next practice after a game night if one of us managed to hit a girl in the face during the game. If I had to choose, I’d go back to the last day of tryouts when the coach was calling girls over to tell them if they made the team or not. We were playing Queens, and she called me over. I was really scared. I was thinking, ‘If you don’t make it on this team, I don’t know what you’re going to do in life.’ Coach Leflore said that I did good the past few days of tryouts. I was just repeating, “I hope I make it,” over and over again in my head. Then she said that I made the team and I was happy. The rest of my day was like, ‘Yay!'” – Trisha Francis, 9
