Tristan Wistuba – Rowing
Rowing has not always been a sport that junior Tristan Wistuba considered, but he found a home in the Saint Louis Rowing team. He enjoys the physical and mental aspects of rowing, which he believes makes him a better athlete.
“I used to swim and was tired of looking at the bottom of the pool. My sister rowed, so I decided I would try it. I really enjoyed the team aspect of it and the opportunity to continue to improve my abilities,” Wistuba said.
Rowing has now been a constant in Wistuba’s life for three years. The sport requires intense practice and the correct form to be able to get the best score possible. The different positions of the rowers dictate what job they have to do. Wistuba typically rows in the port position, meaning he rows on the left side of the boat.
“Rowing empowers me through the physical exertion and the mental dexterity of competing in one of the most physically challenging sports in the world,” Wistuba said.
Since Wistuba started rowing, the physical exertion required for the sport has helped him deal with stress and improve his concentration, especially when it comes to his studies.
“Rowing helps me mentally by providing me with the focus in working to perfect my skills, additionally I enjoy working out so that I can focus more on my studies later,” Wistuba said.
