The light fluffy batter makes it a real delight to eat. This was the first real street food I have ever had when I was 12 years old, and sitting on the side of the street in Mumbai. I had no complaints about Aloo Tikki then and I certainly don’t now.

Aloo Tikki

Aloo Tikki is a potato patty, basically the spicy, Indian version of the American hash brown. The mix of potatoes and spices such as salt, pepper and chilli powder, are deep fried in oil until a crispy golden brown and served with chutney and plain yogurt. The reason this Chaat food is so popular is it’s great taste, and easiness to prepare and eat. It’s a win-win for everyone.

The restaurant Haveli on Page Avenue understands the culture of this dish by using spices from the region it was made in, and creates it really well, capturing the addictive flaky potato flavor perfectly.

LADD REPORT: “This tastes like [Samosa Chaat] just better. This might just be because the spiciness] is milder, but I really like it. The [chutney] is the same amount of spiciness as the samosa chaat curry but the potato balances the spice out, and that bodes well with me. It helps that the potato patty has a nice crunch and is seasoned with salt, pepper, and just a pinch of chilli powder,” Ladd said.
