President and senior Arden Dickson discusses National English Honors Society’s love for English and service
While most students begrudgingly read the classics assigned to them in English class, students of Beta Omicron Kappa, the National English Honors Society, go above and beyond to celebrate their love of reading and literature through English-related service and discussion.
What is the purpose of your club?
“Beta Omicron Kappa is the only international organization for high school students who excel in and are passionate about the English field. Our chapter strives to foster academic success and create a tight community of literature lovers through recognition, service and scholarship. Our main purpose is to help grow the love of literature.”
What is your favorite part of the club?
“My favorite part of our club is our monthly discussions. As an honor society, we are constantly searching for ways to keep our community engaged and informed. Our monthly meetings revolve around a student-led discussion with a rotating topic on current literary events. It’s always a really fun and impactful discussion. I like to see what everyone has to say, and it’s great to be exposed to different viewpoints.”
Why would you love to have new members join your club?
“As a community-focused organization, having varied viewpoints and a diverse membership is extremely important to us. If you are passionate about English and ready to join a group of likeminded bookworms, we are ready for you. Applications have closed for 2020-21, but be sure to check back come Oct. of next year.”
