Now that New York Fashion Week has come to an end, it’s a great time to look back and reflect on all the new trends that debuted! Tommy Hilfiger and BCBG presented their lines during the beginning of the week and both incorporated a lot of the same new styles.
Whether it was Tommy Hilfiger’s bold varsity style or BCBG’s simple and ever classic looks, camel and burgundy were major hits on the runway. Many collections balanced neutral tones with bright colors like orange and cobalt blue.
Tommy Hilfiger modeled his collection after old-school collegiate style. With leather, football-jersey style dresses, and varsity-striped sweaters. He even went so far as to design his stage like a football field. However, BCBG took a different approach with their camel and burgundy, using mayan prints to tie all the colors together. Another common theme between the two designers was long, square-pocketed coats. A large portion of all the outfits had these types of coats in camel and burgundy atop much brighter pieces. The final shared hit on the runway was gaucho pants. Whether they were simple black like on BCBG or tweed plaid on Tommy Hilfiger, they were a major part of both collections.
The most fascinating thing to see throughout the shows was the two different designer’s takes on the same trend. But most importantly they both made sure to keep their collections classy!
