Fed up with the same generic clothing, senior Terry Robinson took a different route and created his own clothing line, dubbing the brand “Whitstone.”
The idea started after Robinson noticed he was around the same style of clothes in and out of school.
“All the clothes I wear look just like everyone else’s, and eventually I grew tired of buying clothes that didn’t look different, so I decided to go out and make my own clothing brand.”
The logo and name of the brand soon followed suit.
“The idea of a jellyfish for the logo came from the motto of ‘No worries, relax,’ which is my company motto. I believe that a jellyfish sort of entails that lifestyle of just going with the flow of things and enjoying every minute of life. A jellyfish is also said to aid in stopping Alzheimer’s disease which my company strongly supports, donating 10% of the profits to the Alzheimer’s Association. After deciding on a name and a logo I put it on a shirt, and when I saw the finished product, I was definitely sure that I wanted to fully invest my brand,” Robinson said.
Robinson believes that what sets him apart from other teen brands is the popularity of his line.
“With the Tide and Vineyard brands having southern styles, I wanted to do something a little classy but with a tropical twist, like polo on the beach. I want the people to know that it’s not just a brand, it’s a lifestyle,” Robinson said.
Robinson is still determining his distribution plan.
“The hardest thing I have to handle right now is finding stock for the product so I can meet the demand. Starting off right now means that the clothes are all about exclusivity, a first come first serve process. But when my profits rise I will have have the ability to cater to the high demand that I will have,” Robinson said.
“A lot of people are supporting my brand and giving me props for being a teenager and having the focus and drive to start my own business,” Robinson said.
His plan for each season is to bring in new styles.
“I get my clothing manufactured by the same company that makes Eddie Bauer so people can expect good quality shirts with a creative twist, different colors and patterns that you don’t normally expect. It is the kind of clothes for people willing to push the boundaries of their wardrobe. With each season bringing different category of clothes, customers can expect more long sleeves and sweater-like clothes in the fall/winter and in turn each transition of the season will bring sales for the older seasons clothes.”
