On Wednesday, April 17, varsity water polo lost to St. Louis Univeresity High (SLUH) 8-10 in overtime. Last season, the West polo team lost to SLUH in the regular season but defeated SLUH for the state championship in sudden death. The West players expected a difficult game against the Bilikens.
“We knew SLUH was going to be a challenging game,” senior Sam Luethy said.
The West team’s season so far has been against less challenging teams.
“It was humbling to play against them,” Luethy said. “We’re going to play them again in the Lindbergh Invitational and at state. We played well the first time and they are going to be good games again.”
Other than their loss to SLUH, the team’s two losses are from ranked teams in a Chicago tournament where three starters were unable to play.
