On Feb 25 the Boys Track and Field had their first practice of the season with a total of 40-45 athletes who showed up to be a part of the team
“The first practice the distance runners ran 5 x 1 mile trying to hit a certain time for each,” Long Distance Coach John said.
The team set goals to better themselves in practice and to improve their standings at meets.
“Our goal is to get better everyday in practice, to make a commitment to being the best team we can be, to improve our standings at the Parkway Quad, Conference and District meets and to qualify individuals for the state meet,” Coach John said.
The biggest challenge they expect to face is the District meet.
“We are in a very competitive district that is very difficult to qualify out of. Districts is also one of the most exciting and fun meets for the same reason,” John said.
The athletes who place in the top four of each District event will qualify for state, something the team is striving for.
“The top four at sectionals are the ones who make it to the State meet. Senior Chris Carter, sophomore Andrew Osborne, senior John Frost and junior Ryan Brautigam look good so far,” John said.
