Acting under the spotlight, junior Jack Mullen and freshman Joe McCurdy perform an emotional father-to-son scene from “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” The cast members worked hard to master the accents of the characters of the original story, which takes place in England. “We started off with American accents and robotic lines and slowly morphed into a British wonderland full of different characters, accents, and cadences,” Mullen said. “It took a while and it was hard work, but the people around me are what helped.”

The training was for the school nurses of Parkway. “It felt real because a lot of the people there are used to acting and were really into it,” sophomore Grace Eschbach said. “It would take a second to be like ‘okay, this is not real. This is just a practice.’ And the people who were training were so on top of it, it felt even more real.”

Theater students help nurses train for emergency situations

With pencils impaled in abdomens, bleeding arms and a number of other fake injuries applied with makeup, a group of 13 theater students helped all of Parkway’s nurses train for a mass casualty situation....

Gathering clips for their first assignment, seniors MJ Stricker, Matthew Showers and Carson Lolley film in the theatre. Students were tasked with creating a 30 second film inspired by the techniques filmmaker Lev Kuleshov. “I like having a simple task so I can be more creative in the filmmaking process,” Lolley said. “I’m excited to keep working on bigger and better projects throughout the semester.”
