Getting a running start, junior Vita Madamanchi prepares to pie Speech and Debate Head coach Cara Borgsmiller after winning a bid. Borgsmiller was one of the coaches who volunteered to get pied, to raise money for Every Child’s Hope at the Speech and Debate team’s annual fundraiser. “Once I closed [donations, the team] wanted to bid on Borgsmiller, and it was a 10-minute bidding match between Madamanchi and [senior] Noah Schell. Madamanchi won and ended up spending $45,” junior Serpil Kucukkaya said.

Unwrapping the finished product, senior Triniti Cook admires the pumpkin pie she baked for Thanksgiving dinner. Cook went to her aunt's house for Thanksgiving dinner. “My favorite part about making [the pie] was listening to Christmas music and singing as I made it. We do it every year and it gets me in the Christmas spirit,” Cook said. “I love this time of year, it makes me so happy and I get excited for the family gatherings and gifts.”

On Pi Day, March 14, juniors Emily Weaver, Emily Lofgren, Lauren Adam and Katie Mendonsa support Mu Alpha Theta’s Pi day fundraiser by purchasing and eating slices of “Pi”. Mu Alpha Theta sold 109 pies for $2 per slice, the proceeds will go toward the math department for new desks, subsidizing math contest fees and new calculators. “Eating pie is a fun way for kids to get involved with math activities that they normally couldn't participate in on other days,” Lofgren said.
