Moving and grooving, senior Jack Goedde dances with the other Mr. Longhorn contestants in their opening act. Seniors and Poms captains Kelsea Wilson and Cameron Chandler choreographed the dances performed throughout the night. “Being able to have a special event for all of the senior guys makes it more fun. All the guys were bad at dancing, including myself, which made us laugh. [Mr. Longhorn] gives us a memory for the rest of our lives.”

Junior Aidan Ryan pretends to have a severed arm as a part of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) disaster training simulations. The simulation’s goal was to test the volunteers’ ability to handle challenging injuries while minimizing mental trauma. “It was funny for me because I got to act panicked and really in shock. It was awesome having the trainees come over and absolutely panic at my situation. I liked having that injury and seeing the whole chaos unfold,” Ryan said.

When someone goes through a name, gender or sexual identity change, it can be hard to make that transition due to our current social norms. People outside of the community can help people transition their identities by understanding pronouns, dead names, and understanding gender and sexual identities. “I think it is very important as a school and as individuals and as a society, that we look at an individual as an individual and that we are treating everyone in a realm that we would want to be treated regardless of the similarities and differences,” Principal Jeremy Mitchell said.
