Abruptly pulled out of Honors English I for a surprise fire drill, freshman Samir Shaik kills time on the football field by having a thumb war with freshman Mya Jenkins. Shaik’s class was working on a research project before they were interrupted by the fire drill and took the moment to just relax and have fun. “Mya and I were goofing off, not really doing anything in particular. I was just having a lot of fun, and I’m glad [this moment] was captured,” Shaik said.

Focusing in, sophomore Brian Wright looks through the eyepiece of his microscope to observe a species of microorganisms. During Biology lab, Wright used a microscope to study the structure of a fungal cell and its similarities with plant cells which provides hints to evolution. ”It was amazing making connections about how we may have evolved from tiny single-cell organisms,” Wright said. “I found microscopes interesting because you can observe things that you can’t regularly see, and dive into the depths of our nature.”

Aiming for a header, senior Ja’Khai Aiken-Guerrier blocks a rival Oakville opponent. The varsity soccer team beat Oakville 2-1. “It was really fun because there were a lot of people that I've known since middle school,” Aiken-Guerrier said. “[We] had a different kind of connection than [I have with] other [students]...we tried to be the best people we could be.”

Sculpting a "Day of the Dead" project in Ceramics 1, sophomore Katie Wallace creates a mug out of her pinch pot. For the assignment, Wallace carved eyes, a nose and a mouth into her mug, and later painted it in bright colors to make it unique. “Getting to have social time, unwind and talk with my friends was my [favorite part of the] class,” Wallace said. “I also liked getting to hone my creativity and get my hands dirty.”

As senior Rick Biswas reads a packet, junior and Scholar Bowl Executive Captain Owen Arneson keeps track of senior Kevin Zheng's and the rest of his teammates' points. Doing this at each of the Scholar Bowl team's practices three times a week allowed Arneson to figure out categories he and his teammates have improved in. Senior and Strategic Captain Anna Csiki-Fejer (not pictured) then helps players find resources to improve in categories the team doesn't cover as well. "I'm excited to go to tournaments, see some new people and competition," Arneson said. ​"We were at a really good spot dedication-wise at the end of last season, but how much more dedication I'm already seeing this year looks like a really good sign to me. I love seeing my teammates play well, show good teamwork and have a good time; it makes me really excited to see just how well we can do this year.​"

"I think [we won] because we had great communication and offensive work during the game," Forbes said. "We all work hard and are supportive of each other. I am looking forward to the competition for this season and improving as a team."

Drawing out biogeochemical cycles in Paul Hage’s AP Environmental Science class, seniors Callie DiCarlo, Waleed Abdulla and Sarah Boland use shaving cream as a memorization tool. Abdulla says that it was easier to remember the drawings than notes or readings. “I thought the shaving cream activity was very fun because of how childish it was. It kinda brought [out] the kid in me. Creating a canvas of shaving cream wasn't exactly on my bucket list, but I'm glad I did it,” Abdulla said. “It's important because fun activities mix creative thinking with education.”

Sophomores Emily Kerber, Abigail Wheeler, Andrew Martin and Annalise Schriber play Jenga on the last day of school. Between flying twislers and giggling friends, Kerber tried to ignore the distractions around her while pulling a block from the tower. “[My favorite part of being back to school] was being able to see everyone. In class, we where able to have fun but also be productive,” Kerber said. “I have mixed feelings about the school year ending.”

To prepare for graduation, senior Joshua Gansen grew out his mustache to celebrate his final day with the Class of 2021. During the eight months of quarantine Gansen also grew out a mullet. “My friends liked the mullet, but took some time to adapt to the mustache look,” Gansen said. "My favorite part of graduation was being able to throw up my cap and hug my friends, CJ Campbell, Matt Hanses and Jeremiah Desu. The new outdoor venue at the PowerPlex was so well-organized. I loved how laid back it was with multiple jumbotrons for families to see from their cars.”
