Junior Neil Dhiman strikes a pose by shifting his weight to his right leg and looking down at his left heel. The words "Longhorn Lookbook" are displayed against a blue background.

Longhorn Lookbook: Neil Dhiman

Serena Liu, Editor-in-Chief May 29, 2023

Donning a long, draping, vampire-esque coat, junior Neil Dhiman walks through a crowded school hallway. Dhiman’s gloomy appearance, made complete by an ornate silver pendant, certainly stands out against...

Grunge icons Pearl Jam released their new live album “Deep: Touring Band 2023” April 20. The live album is gaining praise for being one of the band’s best live albums and most vulnerable records in years. Though some people are harshly critiquing singer Eddie Vedder’s mature voice, for a band that’s been around for 30 years and has gone through many changes, I think this is an impressive album from the group. Pearl Jam: “Deep” or outdated?

Mikalah Owens, Staff Writer May 22, 2023

From being the first band to ever publicly protest in favor of the pro-choice movement on live television on MTV Unplugged in 1992 to hanging from 20-feet rafters at concerts to being the first band to...

Thrash metal band Metallica released their 11th studio album, “72 Seasons,” April 14. While some fans are calling “72 Seasons” Metallica’s best album in a long time, the band’s new album is mediocre and more annoying than anything. The bright album cover is starkly different from the band’s other cover art with its obnoxiously loud color and doesn’t blend well with the album’s sound. (Photo from Metallica)

“72 Seasons:” yet another disappointing Metallica release

Mikalah Owens, Staff Writer May 19, 2023

After 40 years of releases and four decades of being simultaneously loved and loathed, Metallica returns with their new album “72 Seasons.”  Honestly, I’m not a big Metallica fan, but I understand...

Navigating college admissions can be intimidating, but if I survived, you can too.

Intro: a complete guide to college admissions

Tyler Kinzy, Managing Editor-in-Chief August 13, 2021

I don’t remember when exactly it was, but there was a moment when “oh, I’m a senior about to apply to college!” very quickly became “OH, I’M A SENIOR ABOUT TO APPLY TO COLLEGE!” For me,...

At the expense of sounding arrogant, I won the game without playing the game.

About me: an overview of my application

Tyler Kinzy, Managing Editor-in-Chief August 13, 2021

I should preface this section by saying that I don’t intend for this to be a brag fest in which I encourage others to compare themselves to me or anyone else. I’m sure there are “less impressive...

I don’t think I can persuade everyone with this piece. What I can do is provide my thoughts and leave them out in the open for readers to ponder.

Revisiting my “Acceptance into elite colleges is the wrong goal” article

Tyler Kinzy, Managing Editor-in-Chief August 13, 2021

Get comfortable. This is going to be a long article. I’ve thought about this piece for more than two years now. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I wrote a post entitled “Acceptance into elite...

What follows is my method of organization, with the obvious disclaimer that you should use whatever system works best for you.

How I stayed organized

Tyler Kinzy, Managing Editor-in-Chief August 13, 2021

College admissions is an increasingly complicated process, one with lots of moving parts that you’ll need to stay on top of. What follows is my method of organization, with the obvious disclaimer that...

One trend you’ll notice throughout the rankings formula is that, according to U.S. News, rich students = better school... how we determine prestige is a question that you should engage with.

How are the “best college” rankings made? Not well.

Tyler Kinzy, Managing Editor-in-Chief August 13, 2021

Once you spend even a little time in the world of elite college admissions, you’ll inevitably come across the Holy Grail of prestige: the U.S. News & World Report rankings. People will refer to schools...
