“Two years ago, we were assigned several group projects. In one of them, I was partnered with a kid who [initially] contributed very little to the project. However, I didn’t really want to make it seem like his contributions weren’t important, as he did do a bit nearing the end. So, when I reached out to him, I tried to keep my language as non-judgemental and friendly as possible. We ended up doing well on the project and later became good friends. I’m glad I didn’t act with haste, as it could’ve impacted our relationship in the future. It’s very easy to make mistakes with how you’re acting to others and how you’re engaging with others, without even thinking. I think if you take the time to think your own thoughts through, that also makes you a better listener and a better communicator.” – Umar Rafiq, 9
