Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge! Students are getting ready for the third annual dodgeball tourney on Dec. 10. All the money raised from student entries will go to the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition (FACC), the charity that the student body voted to support for the 2016-2017 school year.
“The nature of this charity is to provide needed goods and supplies to foster kids as well as place them in forever homes,” student body president and senior Abby Kottmeyer said.
Longhorn Council (LoCo) has been raising funds for the FACC throughout the semester by collecting some of the proceeds from football games and also from events such as the powder puff football game. LoCo is also organizing a toy drive for the holiday season.
“While we don’t have a specific goal to raise, the sky’s the limit. We want to raise as much as we can,” philanthropist and junior Cheryl Ma said.
In order to participate, students must pick up a sign-up packet from their grade-level principal’s office and organize a team of 6-8 players. The cost is ten dollars per participant. Students must turn in their registrations before Dec. 2 in order to participate.
“I would encourage everyone to be involved in dodgeball,” philanthropist and senior Alara Suctu said. “It is an opportunity for them to have fun with their friends, support a good cause and get out any aggressions by hitting some people with dodgeballs.”
