“Doom” is a an intense, first-person shooter game known for its destructive weapons that have fast, fluid movement. The game was called Doom 4, before release, which delivers missions completely from what most die-hard gamers think for a current version of the original “Doom.”
The objective is simple — complete each level by destroying all demon’s in the level. This latest version perfects what “Doom” has always done — destroy demons with immense weapons like the iconic Big Freaking Gun (BFG) and the double-barrel shotgun. You can get up close and personal with a new ability called “glory kills” that makes the game feel quick, fierce and progress-guided during close combat. As your character runs through point A to point B players can admire the game’s design in its interweaving branched routes and spiraling levels.
One of the most interesting aspects of the game is that campaign mode focuses on 13 levels of Mars and Hell. This is a plot that is very refreshing and leaves the player wanting more explosive shooting. It is a burst of trickery to find secrets in the game, which vary from little Doomguy figures to super health packs and a small area of classic levels. After each classic is completed, you can unlock the levels and play them via the main menu. It is a riveting experience and not once does it get boring or clichéd. The completion of the game leaves the player wanting extra gameplay.
Furthermore, players get the standard weapons that you see in “Doom” with two mods per weapon and upgrades to make your weapons have more power. The final upgrade on each mod is a challenge, such as the opportunity to get double kills with one shot. There are also perks you can find in the game that make you complete a challenge to unlock them, collecting more ammo or health from fallen enemies for instance
One weaker aspect of of the game was the fact that the multiplayer was lackluster. It comes with six game modes and nine maps to play. The best part of multiplayer was the demon rune that spawns randomly. When acquired the player transforms into a demon and then gives the players’ team a small advantage. Other powerups are armor and weapon customization to give the player’s avatar a personal customization.
The game is definitely worth $60 to play. Gameplay includes combat that flows perfectly, the graphics run great and the music is a rocking soundtrack that gets you moving. Overall,“Doom” is a fantastic game and a must play for any fan of Doom or the fan of the FPS genre.
The Parkway West Pathfinder gives “Doom” a 9/10.
