Prom: the one night of the year when you can almost guarantee no one will show up in leggings and a T-shirt. So what’s a Longhorn to wear?
To help both boys and girls out with picking clothing options this year, the West fashion department hosted their annual Prom fashion show with fantastic clothes provided by Savvi Formalwear. The ladies also looked red-carpet-ready with the help of students from Crave Beauty school, who helped out with the women’s hair and makeup.
Senior Kaitlyn Lawler is President of the Fashion Club, and looked forward to Prom fashion.
“Seeing people in the whole school look at me while was walking in my dress and makeup on me was super scary for me, but it was really fun at the same time because me and my partner were just having fun the whole time and didn’t really care about the crowd looking at us.” Lawler said.
With this years prom theme centering around a Modern Masquerade, the dresses were very formal and didn’t really go outside of the norm.
Being new to the fashion department this year, freshman Kennedy Silverberg had no hesitation with volunteering for the show.
“Since I’m not a junior or senior I can’t go to Prom obviously, but it was really cool to get a really pretty dress and wear it out on the runway in front of my school and friends,” Silverberg said. “It was really fun for me as well because everybody that was in it just had fun, and we all just played off of each others’ moods, which made me not care or think about it as much. The only thing I didn’t like was that my dress was really long and I’m super short, so we needed to use safety pins to keep the dress up, but it’s the price I was willing to pay.”
The models that wore the dresses were all student volunteers ranging from freshman to seniors who put themselves on the runway to show off the Prom fashion. Among them, senior Kyle Bernstein participated to try something new.
“It was cool wearing a tux, and trying something new was very fun for me,” Bernstein said. “The most fun I had was with Charlie Huff, and just going out there on stage acting goofy and dancing around is something I’ll never forget.”
