On Thursday, April 2, during both lunches, students had the opportunity to thrust pie into a teachers’ faces.
“It’s an event COW has done for the past two years. We sell tickets and collect cash to give to Friends for Kids with Cancer who then sponsor treatments for these kids and help them out along the way,” COW Secretary, sophomore Allie Collins said.
For sophomore Maggie Hulen, buying the ticket was to help support Cash for Cancer (C4C).
“Cash for Cancer is a program that helps cancer families who need money. I bought a ticket to help support this great cause and to pie my teacher. But I felt bad at the same time,” Hulen said.
Junior Emily Wind was also given the opportunity to pie a teacher in the face.
“I was so excited! Ms. Collins is one of my favorite teachers,” Wind said.
For Wind, the chance to pie a teacher was one she could not miss.
“I bought a ticket, but I originally wasn’t going to do it cause I just didn’t want to do it. Then I heard Ms. Collins was one of the teachers doing it and I knew I had to do it. I had her for AP World History. It was a rough year because it’s such a hard class and it takes a lot out of you, so getting to pie her in the face was just like payback,” Wind said.
However, Wind also participated for the chance of giving back.
“I loved donating like any sort of money to charities and organizations like that. Charities and organizations like that are very close to my heart because I love giving. I would pie a teacher in the face without it being for anything, but the fact that it was for such a great cause made it even better,” Wind said.
Collins also felt the effects of giving.
“It really makes you feel good to think about what it’s going towards and what its going to help and how it’s helping people even though you don’t directly see them,” Collins said.
Collins has positive predictions for next year’s ticket sales.
“We got a lot of people to help sell and we have plans to help maybe boost sales next year,” said Collins. “This year was a little bit lower on the sales end but we have plans in order for next year to hopefully get sales back up.”
