Rachel Osborne

Rachel Osborne, Retired

Class of: 2016

Post High School: I'm currently working at being as accomplished a high school student as I can so that I can get into college. I'm sure I will hold a stellar job in the future.

What was your favorite part of being on staff? My favorite part of newspaper was the free schedule so that I could work at my own pace and the opportunities to meet new people when I went out to interview. I wish I could still fit the class in my schedule; it was great!

Sophomore Lily Briscoe hands in her money she earned for the Walk-a-Thon to teacher sponsor Annie Wayland. The Walk-a-Thon ends 'West Chest Week', a week of efforts to raise money for local charity West Chest. “The charity West Chest comes right back to our own West community and helps those families in need. There are far more families that need this help than most students recognize,” West Chest sponsor Susan Anderson said.

Junior Maddy Brown raced at the District meet, placing 4th and helping her team to make it through to Sectionals for the second year in a row. Though the team did not make it to state, Brown qualified individually and placed 3rd at the state meet. “I’ve realized that running is not a right, but a blessing, because so many people are not even able to walk, much less run. I want to run like I’m the most privileged girl in the world and use my talents well,” Brown said.

Mr. Herpel and his JV soccer team pose for their fall picture on Friday, Aug. 30. School and soccer often get mixed together for Herpel when he relates stories about soccer to his Latin students and vice versa. "He talks to us about soccer all the time. If there was a bad call at a game the night before, we certainly know about it. He re-enacts the whole scenes; he's so charismatic and it's always hilarious!" senior Becky Salamon said.

They boys cross country team poses after they won first place at the Parkway Quad. The team held a fundraiser for "the Shoeman" George Hutchings at the Quad, and the deadline to donate shoes has been extended to Sept. 21 so that everyone can donate their used shoes. "The Shoeman is a great cause because Africans are helped in two ways: they get shoes to wear, and they are given clean drinking water," assistant coach Kristen Witt said.
