Walking onto the field, freshman Erastus Adewusi wears a pink jersey in remembrance of cancer awareness month. With the number seven on his jersey, Adewusi reflects on his life in Nigeria before moving to America. “I [used to wake up] at 5:30 a.m. and school would end at 5 p.m. [versus] now,” Adewusi said.

“My goal for soccer this season is not only to improve in skill, but also to improve my way of communication. [To] not always put the blame on myself since a team [improves together]. So my goal [coming into the team] was to not be so harsh on myself and to know that not the whole team depends on [me]. We all work as a team, and everyone [plays] a different [role]. The most exciting game this season was the first game, even though we lost it was like an exciting experience because it was the first game and it was nice seeing all my friends playing on the field together. I really improved my communication [skills]. My goal is to continue to strengthen my [ability of] communication [with the team] and to also improve my skill [at playing soccer].” - Ali Abdulsattar, 9

Tearing through teams of junior Longhorn basketball players, senior Chase Haun takes the court on December 1. Elementary and middle school players joined the high school team on the floor before the game. “We were playing our rivals, Parkway South, and all the youngins were there supporting us.” Haun said. “A lot of the community was there rooting for us. This might have been the most packed crowd I have ever seen in my basketball career.”

“My biggest passion is graffiti. I love putting my name on stuff. I love the style, and the improvement [I make]. People overlook it, but once you start trying to do it, it's a lot harder than it might look. I love creating art. I love making new designs, sketching my notebook and painting. I think that making art in general, is what makes me me. I think other people think I'm unique because I have an interesting history and an interesting life because not a lot of people are into [things that I’m interested in]. My history was sour, but I think it's what made me. I don't care about how I'm perceived. As long as [people] like me for me. I want [to be surrounded by] the type of people that bring me up, [and rely on them to] help me back up if I fall down.” - Ryan Mues, 9

The sun beams and the sweat beads as freshman Erastus Adewusi walks onto the field at the freshmen boys soccer game on Oct.10. The team wore pink jerseys in honor of Cancer Awareness Day. “We wore pink to honor those who had survived breast cancer or not,” Adewusi said. “We played hard and passionately for those who had breast cancer, but most importantly, we played to honor them,” Adewusi said.
