“[On] Halloween night, we were all hanging out in a parking lot. We had candy from trick-or-treating, and the police came over to us. I think they were just doing a regular patrol, but it was just strange. I was the only person of color, [and] the rest were white, so [that was a] key factor. They came up to us, and some of my friends were pretty okay with it, but I was like, maybe we should leave. My friends convinced us to stay and talk to them. It was probably the media [that makes it scary but], at the time, there were a lot of BLM protests going on.” – Ava Randall, 10
