After a canceled season last year due to COVID-19, spring sports have made a strong return. Approaching the midseason mark, varsity teams have now gotten comfortable with their new leaders and teammates. In this photo gallery, student-athletes describe the unique and lasting effects of last year’s cancelled season.
Celebrating after he hit a double, senior Nick Harms laughs with his friends and teammates on the varsity baseball team. In a game against Francis Howell Central High School April 5, the team won 18-13, and also ranked as No. 1 in the state Class Five power rankings from the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association. “We have hit the season in stride despite the cancellation of last year's season because many of us play for summer teams [and] were able to get in seasons last summer,” Harms said. “I’m making sure I soak in all the moments like celebrating teammates’ successes and having fun at practices.”
