Throwback pictures on Thursdays, photography of adventures with friends on weekends and well-wishing videos on birthdays: by looking through a student’s Instagram, you can often get a snapshot into their life.
Along with their original accounts, students across the country are making second accounts that appreciate the happiness they experience in their everyday lives.
“A 100 happy days account is an Instagram account that you post on once everyday explaining specific things that made you happy that day,” junior Olivia Daiker said. “It is supposed to remind you of the good things in life.”
For 100 days, these accounts update with a daily picture with a caption that lists of all the things that made the account’s owner happy. The picture can be of anything, and sometimes people also write what song makes them happy each day.
“Posting on the account everyday really opened my eyes to the good things in my life. Even on my worst days, I still found something to be happy about,” senior Allison Smith said.
Many Instagram users that have an account like this claim to have gotten the idea from seeing someone else’s 100 happy days account.
“It’s like a chain reaction of happiness. I decided to start mine because I saw one and I thought it would be fun, and some of my friends saw mine and that made them decide to make one,” senior Katie Bowen said.
On her last day of posting on her account, Smith posted a flipagram (a video of pictures) with 100 pictures of herself and her friends on it.
“It’s fun to look at the account and reflect on what made me happy all those days. Even without the account, I still try to reflect on what makes me happy each day, but I don’t do it as often as I did during the 100 days,” Smith said.
Senior Mahnoor Malik created a unique 100 happy days account about Biology teacher Chris Azar.
“His classic thing he does is he always grunts. He’s always pretty grumpy, so I thought it would be ironic and funny to make a happy days account about him. He says a lot of funny things, so ideas for posting are very easy,” Malik said.
The account name is 100happydays_baezar and it has 82 followers.
“I usually put Snapchat filters on him while he is talking and then post those. I caption it with subjects like coke zero, biology, and his undying love for the company Apple. He also calls us infants all the time, so I use that in the captions a lot,” Malik said.
Malik’s favorite post is day 68. The post is about how he talks about his wife and has no emotion, but when he talks about Biology he gets so excited. It is one of her posts with the most likes.
“Mahnoor tries to tell me about the things she posts on there, but I tell her that I don’t even want to know about it. I guess it’s kind of funny,” Azar said.
