Since her freshman year, senior Mary Galkowski has taken Design Arts, Photo I, Photo II and AP Photo.
“I have lots of things that I am interested in and hobbies that I have picked up over the years: volleyball, music, art, drawing, traveling, etc. But the one thing I have always been exceptionally passionate about is photography,” Galkowski said.
Galkowski’s grandfather introduced her to photography when she was in fourth grade.
“I started art classes freshman year, and I’ve loved taking photos ever since. There has never been a dull moment, there’s always something to do,” Galkowski said.
Galkowski was given a 1960s Honeywell Pentax manual camera from her grandpa during her sophomore year.
“My grandfather used to take pictures on the daily basis and manually develop them and print them out. He has tons and tons of his phenomenal photographs hung up throughout my grandparents home,” Galkowski said.
Galkowski plans to continue photography after she graduates.
“I plan to go to Mizzou to study teaching or hospitality and management. I’ll probably take photography as an elective or have it as a minor,” Galkowski said.
