Eighteen-year-old Alessia Cara, from Brampton, Ontario, is rising up through the charts as a young pop star.
Her first extended play (EP) “Four Pink Walls” is pop/rock. The music video “Four Pink Walls” It’s dull with her just singing to a camera in her room.
“I thought I’d shoot this one in my room since the song is about my bedroom walls,” Cara said in her music video.
While it was a good idea, it did not look professional. The music was sturdy and has potential, her rapping was robust like Nicki Minaj but it was not a record deal.
I got bored of listening to the song “I’m Yours” after about one minute, when she kept on repeating, “Oh baby I’m Yours.”
Subsequently, her music videos should be more interesting. The music video for “I’m Yours” was just her running around her street trying to get away from her “admirer,”which was senseless because she was singing “Oh baby, I’m Yours” as she was running away.
Her most popular song, “Here” is the best song in her album. This song is not as repetitive as “I’m Yours.” It is more of a slow song, and her vocals are vigorous. It had a nice tone, which is a huge factor in making music. It is not as catchy, but it does have lyrics with a good rhyme like “Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed / with this anti-social pessimist / but usually I don’t mess with this.” That piece of the song stood out to me the most because it was really smooth and catchy.
Cara’s song “Outlaws” is overrun with too much background music, and it is rather difficult to understand what she is singing. I had to look at the lyrics to understand what she was saying, but the vocals are exceptional.
Overall, the music is good and worth listening to with only a few flaws. Cara has very much proved that she could become a successful pop star, but it will take time.
According to the Daily Californian, Cara is “A star without an inflated ego, a younger Rihanna and the storytelling talent of Swift.”
Cara just might be the next huge pop star in the music industry.
