Reaching 1000 points during the Jan. 30 basketball game, senior Lee McMullin achieved a new milestone during her high school basketball career.
“I knew I was close because people told me I was, although some people lied to me because different numbers were being thrown around, but I found out that I needed 12 points in the game to reach 1000 points. I ended up getting 18 points,” McMullin said.
McMullin was nervous before the game because of the pressure.
“I knew a lot of people were there to see me reach 1000 points, and I was afraid that if I didn’t make it, I would disappoint them,” McMullin said.
McMullin is now in the ‘1000 points club’ after scoring the basket.
“Since I reached 1000 points, I can say I’m in the “1000 points club” which is with five other Parkway West basketball players. It is a huge honor,” McMullin said.
The crowd showed their support when McMullin scored the basket.
“The moment was indescribable. I heard everyone cheer and saw everyone throw up signs. I had to stop and gain my composure,” McMullin said.
Fans showed support cheering and bringing signs to the game.
“The crowd was really supportive throughout the game. One of them, Andrew Schmidt, my cousin, wore a hat with my face on it and a cape with a bunch of 1000s on it. He was in the front row, so I saw him right away,” McMullin said.
To improve her skills for the season, McMullin spent time during the summer participating in school camps, playing in the schools summer league team and coached kids at our younger camps.
“All of these things have allowed her to improve not only the physical aspects of her game, but the mental understanding of how to play,” Coach John Sloop said.
McMullin is now a leader for younger members of the team.
“She has grown from an important part of our program as a freshman to our leader on and off the floor as a senior. She has taken on a lot of responsibility in our program and has done it with a great deal of maturity,” Sloop said.
