AP photo students are required to enter in a local photo competition twice a year. With work over the summer and guidance from their teachers, senior Annie Wyland and junior Lueking Knabe placed first in their category at Lindenwood University.
“I had to do a project for class. We had to take photos over the summer, and I took photos of my cousin,” Wyland said, “It looks like she is looking at her reflection while she is jumping on a trampoline.”
Wyland spent one month to finish her winning piece.
“I found out I won on my birthday. I went to the competition thinking maybe I would get third if I was lucky,” Wyland said, “When they announced I had won it was the best feeling ever, and the best birthday present I could have gotten.”
Knabe tried Design Arts his freshman year.
“On my first project of my freshman year I drew hands, and I got the extra points,” Knabe said, “After that moment I realized that I could actually create art.”
Knabe’s art career continued throughout his sophomore and junior year with help from Art teacher Peggy Dunsworth.
“I spent a long time looking at other peoples artwork, and I got inspiration from their pieces,” Knabe said, “Ms. Dunsworth continued to encourage me, and I have taken everyone of Ms. Dunsworth’s classes that she has offered.”
After many successes in high school, Knabe and Wyland hope to continue their art career.
“I am planning to go to an art school, and getting my masters to become an art professor,” Knabe said, “I hope to become a practicing artist.”
